After I login to write.as, I get stuck in a loop of adding a new post, and then publishing it, then going back to the new posts screen when, in all actuality, all I want to do is view my admin dashboard. I've tried many different URLS but none work.

I'm using a screen reader, NVDA, so there is probably a menu I'm missing, but the menus in the editor, font, toggle theme, are not labeled properly.

Reproduce steps.

  1. Go to write.as
  2. Click, Login.
  3. Login.
  4. After you land on the post a new entry screen, try to navigate to your admin dashboard without adding anything to the address bar.
  5. Try going to the, write.as homepage. It loops you back to the compose screen.

Expected behavior.

After logging in, I expect to be taken to a dashboard. Not a new post creation screen.

Perhaps this could be a setting users can toggle?

Hi @rkingett, which settings were you hoping to get to? The admin dashboard is only accessible to WriteFreely server admins, so any regular users outside of our admin team won't find that section of the site at all.

I was hoping to get to my customization settings and my blog management settings. Where I change blog names, change my URL, blog post order style, etc. I know some of those require a pro subscription, but I'd like to get to my user/blog dashboard.

Ah, then you actually want to go to your blog's Customize page. You can get to this by going to your Blogs page, either by clicking the first / top-left link on the editor page, or the "View Blogs" link in the dropdown. You can also access this from the Posts page -- you'll find "Blogs" in the top navigation bar.

For this issue, a few things I think we need to address:

  • Looking at the editor, that first / top-left link has an image in it without any alt text -- so we should fix that. I believe that's what screen readers need to announce the link -- is that correct?

  • We also need to make sure you can access the dropdown menu; in a standard browser, I can't access it with my keyboard.

  • Editor buttons are graphical and only describe their function in the <a> tag's title attribute -- I think we need to add alt text to the <img> instead.

To a screen reader user, the very first thing we see, on the page, is the following, in order.

  1. Title edit field.
  2. Body edit field.

There is a navigation landmark below the editor, but it appears to expand and collapse a menu. Nothing appears to happen upon expanding this menu. Basically, I can't tell what this write.as home menu item is supposed to do.

As to your points, correct! On all of them! Yes, if all three issues you pointed out were taken care of, then I could navigate it.

If the expanded menu is supposed to come before the editor, this does not happen with screen readers. It comes after the editor.
